Project 01 · Final year

AERØ

A portable, battery-powered shoe dryer for athletes, designed to cut moisture and odour wherever they train. I took it from user research to a working prototype and a complete brand, including packaging, retail and a campaign.

Problem

Sweat stays trapped after training.

Moisture and sweat sit inside sports shoes after a session, causing odour and bacterial growth. Air drying is slow, and most shoe dryers are bulky, plug-powered and no use on the go.

250,000
sweat glands in the feet can produce around half a pint of sweat every day.

Solution

Sized to live in a kit bag.

AERØ gives athletes a quick way to remove moisture, reduce odour and keep their shoes fresh wherever they train: battery powered, with a handle, and small enough to clip on and forget.

Relevant to apparel and footwear: designing for a sport consumer, CMF choices, and taking a product all the way to shelf.

Brand & go-to-market

Drying, Redesigned.

Logo, tone of voice, packaging, a sports-retail shelf and a co-branded 10K run and recovery event with Puresport in Hyde Park. The product only works if the athlete meets it in the right place.

Development

Sketch, CAD, print, test, refine

Test early
Early concepts went to target users before any CAD.
Build it properly
External form and internal parts modelled in SolidWorks.
Feedback into the next round
The printed prototype went back to athletes, then got refined.
